New to Selling Christmas Trees?
Selling Christmas trees is a fun and exciting addition to any business that has the potential to make you stand out and increase footfall. It is important to know the demographic of the area where you trade and to check if any other businesses are selling Christmas trees in the immediate area. If they are, it doesn’t mean that you can’t, it just means that you may need to take this into account when ordering your tree quantities.

How should I look after my Christmas Tree?
It is important to provide your customers with good care advice so they get the most out of their tree. It is important to stress that until cut, a Christmas tree is a living outdoor tree that will begin to deteriorate once placed in a heated home environment, just like a bunch of cut flowers would. How long they last in all their festive glory will depend on the after care of the customer. The best way to achieve a lasting healthy tree is to keep it watered. We always recommend placing them away from radiators and fires and preferably in the coolest most ventilated place in the room/ home.
We also supply water holding tree stands. These are in our opinion and experience the best stands on the market. If pitched correctly, 1 stand can be sold with every 3 trees sold. Please ask for advice about tree stands.

Standing your tree straight away?
- Make a fresh cut of approximately 3-5cm off the bottom of the stump to remove the sap seal (as the retailer you may have done this for your customer already).
- Decide where to remove the net from your tree – indoors or outdoors. We recommend indoors AFTER the tree has been erected. Wherever you do this some needle loss should be expected during the un-netting process– this is normal.
- Within 1 hour of the fresh cut being made, place tree in a water holding tree stand and position it in the coolest part of the room. Avoid placing it near any heat sources and keep the room ventilated.
- Carefully remove the net from tree by cutting it around the base and gently pulling it upwards and over the top of the tree. Now fill the stand’s reservoir with water.
- Check the water in the stand regularly and top it up to ensure the water level never drops below the bottom of the stump.

Standing your tree at a later date?
We always recommend giving your tree at least 24 hours to rehydrate in a bucket of water and storing in a cool place to help it acclimatize. Your tree can remain healthy until you are ready for it if kept outside in its net, in a bucket of cold water. When customers are ready to bring their tree inside they should follow steps 1-5 above.
